Silencing unwanted sources:
The silence function erases the audio data currently selected, replacing it with silence instead of removing it completely. This function leaves time between segments, unlike the cut feature. To use it, just select the segment of audio you with to erase and click silence (or CTRL + L).
Duplicate Audio
When you duplicate audio, the selected area gets copied, a new track is created and the copied material is pasted in to that new track at the same point in the timeline (see below). Duplicating audio onto another track is as simple as selecting the audio and clicking duplicate (or CTRL + D).
Now that this segment has been duplicated, you can add effects and do some really cool stuff while still retaining the original sound information. This also opens up the possiblity of layering different effects which can be manipulated independently.
Split Audio
The split function performs the same as Duplicate, but it also silences the selected material, after copying it to a new track (see below). (CTRL + I)
