Audacity

Setting Preferences

Checking your preferences is an important step, as it defines the properties for your project, including file type and sample rate.

  1. Select "Preferences from the "Edit" menu or press Ctrl+P
  2. On the "Audio I/O" tab, make sure your playback and recording devices are valid
  3. On the "Quality" tab, set the sample rate to the desired level
  4. Finally, on the "Audio Files" tab, select the options that best suit your needs. It is recommended that you choose "Make a copy of the file before editing" and "Always copy all audio into project," as these options create a safer working environment in case something happens to your computer or the files you are editing
  5. You can choose what file type you want in the "Export"dialog box, found by selecting "Export" from the "File" menu
